At the Council's Environment, Development and Transport Committee today the Tory administration caved in to pressure led by the Liberal Democrats and supported by Norfolk Labour to remove the cuts to road gritting across the county.

First raised by Tim East at the October meeting, where his pressure supported by Parish/Town Councils saw the Tories remove their budget cut to make Parish and Town Councils pay for grit bins to compensate for roads not being gritted, his and the Liberal Democrat campaign to stop the budget cut that would reduce the number of roads that were gritted across the county came to fruition at today's meeting.

Tim East

Road safety is one of our key priorities and the reduction in road gritting would have made our roads less safe. This budget cut was not worth the risk of one person losing their life on an ungritted road and we are delighted it has been removed.

We will be continuing to press the Conservative administration to keep their promise not to cut front line services.
