The recent EU Parliamentary elections produced some extraordinary results in many parts of the country but few could compare with the share out of the votes in the South Norfolk DC area. As almost everywhere, Brexit topped the poll with 35.3 % of the votes cast. But it was the LiberalDemocrats who finished second with 23.5 % while the Conservatives could only manage 11.8 % and Labour 5.7 %.

If the votes of the other pro-Remain parties, the Greens at 16.2 % and Change UK with 3.5 %, are added to the Lib Dems' share it suggests that there is now a clear majority for remaining in the EU in South Norfolk. Similar figures were generated in other parts of the country but the Tories press on with their plans for a No-Deal Brexit. A People's Vote is the only way out of this terrible mess.

These results followed significant gains in the South Norfolk DC elections in May. Despite the disruption caused by ward boundary changes the Lib Dems captured five seats from the Tories. The new ten-strong Liberal Democrat Group, under its new Leader Chris Brown, is determined to challenge the controlling Conservative administration at every opportunity
