South Norfolk in Europe

South Norfolk Liberal Democrats campaigned for a "remain" vote in the Referendum in June 2016. While respecting that result, they believed that once the final details of "Brexit" are known there was a strong case for a new "Peoples Vote" to confirm or reverse the decision to leave the EU. We supported the "Norfolk for Europe" campaign and the People's Vote Campaign. Finally we as a National Party gave the people of Great Britain the opportunity to vote to stop Brexit altogether in the 2019 snap General Election on 12th September. Sadly Boris Johnson's Conservative Party (now a shadow of what it was, having lost many lifelong members and dedicated public servants in its headlong desire to take the UK out of the EU whatever the cost) won a majority which entitles it (without the support of the majority of voters, or indeed the country) to do just that.

Boris Johnson won on a slogan of "lets get Brexit done". It remains to be seen whether that will ever be possible.

Liberal Democrats will continue to fight for as close as possible a relationship with our European neighbours, and for the rights of all of our citizens, including EU nationals, very many of whom have lived here for decades, working, paying their taxes, raising their families.
